An Associate Professor of Criminal Law, he had a degree – with honours – from the University of Bologna, where he also obtained a PhD in Criminal Law, also supervised by Prof. Filippo Sgubbi, with which he also worked from 2014 to 2020. As a member of the Bar Association, he practises law in all the main areas of corporate criminal law, including bankruptcy, corporate and financial criminal law, tax criminal law and, criminal liability of entities, a sector in which he has gained significant expertise in defending large listed and unlisted companies, and consortia. Over the years, he has acquired significant experience in information criminal law, also regarding new media.
He is a lecturer for numerous Master’s Degree programmes on criminal law of the economy and business, and regularly holds lectures at post-graduate schools. He is a member of Italian Association of Criminal Law Professors and provides training for the Forensic Foundation and the Specialist Training School of the Union of Italian Criminal Lawyers Associations. He is member of the Criminal Lawyers Association of Bologna and the Italian Legislative Decree 231/2001 Monitoring Unit of the Union of Criminal Lawyers Associations. He has authored over fifty publications on criminal law, including two monographs (Diritto penale ed enti collettivi (Criminal Law and Collective Entities) 2018; Fake news e diritto penale (Fake News and Criminal Law 2020), both published by Giappichelli Editore in the series “Itinerari di Diritto penale” (Review of Criminal Law), and the technical treatise “Diritto penale e criminalità organizzata” (Criminal Law and Organised Crime), written with Gaetano Insolera, which has reached a third edition (Giappichelli, 2022). He is a member of the Editorial Boards or Review Boards of numerous legal journals, including Archivio Penale, L’Indice Penale, DisCrimen, Diritto Penale del XXI Secolo and Diritto di difesa, for which he is the Coordinator of the Criminal Law Area.

He holds a Law degree from the University of Bologna, graduating with honours. He was supervised by Prof. Renzo Costi and Prof. Luca Enriques, with whom he conducted research in the area of commercial law and financial market law. A lawyer enabled to represent clients before the Court of Cassation, he is a member of the Bologna Bar Association, and practices in various areas of corporate law, including company law and commercial contracts, banking and financial market law, bankruptcy law and litigation and arbitration. He is specialised in particular in managing corporate litigation regarding liability actions and judicial administration. He has assisted large, internationally prominent corporations, and has been appointed as counsel in numerous bankruptcy proceedings.
Over the years, he has held positions in governance and control bodies of banks and corporations. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and the Chairman of the Related Parties Committee of an Italian credit institution. He is a member of Ned Community, the Italian association of non-executive, independent directors and members of governance and control bodies of listed or large companies. He has authored publications on commercial and financial law and has delivered lectures and seminars on banking and bankruptcy law, specifically for training courses at several large Italian banks.
